Everything Goes Right/ Salt & Liquor (2024)

Acrylic, charcoal, ink, found materials.

Auspicious signs and phrases are often used to beckon a fortuitous and prosperous year. “年年有余”, which means “Have abundance with every year”, sounds similar to “Have fish with every year” due to a homophone. As a result, we eat fish every Lunar New Year.

Salt and liquor is used to cure meats that would be stored in the cold. Salt preserves and liquor cleans.

The same two elements are used to ease our transition from Winter to Spring: salt for our roads; liquor for our hearths…

…and dried pork belly for our stomachs because we adapt to our elements well.

Homemade charcoal, ink, clotheslines, clothe pins, black tea.

Time passed by, which is time well spent, is marked by their habits.
